Remote Control Support in Microsoft Vista and Windows 7

Microsoft Vista users are at a very big disadvantage compared to users of Microsoft's earlier operating systems, in that Microsoft no longer allow third party remote control software to access the Internet and the user console at the same time, until after the user has logged on.  This, for us, causes operational difficulties in assisting you, as we cannot make administrator changes without the assistance of a user constantly accepting the changes and reconnecting us, because Microsoft's security measures keep stopping us.  Since these security measures do not work properly anyway, (viruses and spy-ware gets around them), you must on a Vista PC before calling for support do the following:-

(a) Click the "Start" button then go into the Control Panel.  Switch to "Classic" view if you have not already.  Click on "User Accounts".  On this screen click "Turn User Account Control on or off", then untick the tick box marked "Use User Account Control (UAC)" Click OK.  Close the Control Panel.

(b) Windows Vista and 7 users must use a different version of VNC called UltraVNC (available for free via out Toolbox), and install it.  Instead of the usual VNC icon, the icon is an eye in a green box.

Now you can connect to us like any other normal Microsoft computer user.

If you are paranoid, then revisit the control panel after our support session with you have ended, and retick the UAC tick box in (a) above.
