Transferring data to or from MyServer via Remote Desktop Connection

You will want to be able to transfer data to MyServer (file server or remote desktop server) from your local desktop.

When signing on to MyServer's Remote Desktop Connection, at the screen where you select which server you are connecting to, select "Options", click the "Local Resources" tab, under "Local Devices and Resources" tick "Drives" to connect all your local drives when you log in.  Note on some PC's this is in the "More" sub screen.

You will receive a warning message informing you that others may be able to see your local computer data.  Not all MyServer users can, only Administrators of our system hence the message.

Log in a usual.  When your login script has finished processing, please wait 60 seconds whilst the remote desktop service connects your local drives.  After this short delay, right click on the "Start" button and select "Explore" from the popup menu.

In the Explore window, look at the bottom of the left hand pane and you will see entries like:-

     "+  C on Your_PC"

Click on the "+" and dig down to the appropriate folders for your files.  Cut, copy, paste or drag your files to your U: drive.

Notes:-

  • Please be aware that the file copies are only as fast as your broadband link, ie slow.  File copies to us will be slower than files copies from us because of this.
  • Please also be aware that if you share an office broadband with other users at your premises, large file copies are best performed out of hours or lunchtime or when other users know it is being performed as it can cause a degradation of MyServer performance for others sharing your broadband link and/or using the MyServer service.
  • If you need to script any data transfers, you can reference your local computers hard disc using the following UNC convension,  \\tsclient\c  then append any sub folders as necessary.  You may want to map a drive using the 'net use' command, see Microsoft help for further information.
  • If there are spaces in your folder names or files names you will need to wrap them in quotation marks as per some of the examples above.
