FTP Transfers

You can use the FTP software to transfer data to us either over a secure VPN connection or over an insecure open connection.

1. FTP over a secure VPN connection
If your router allows PPTP VPN's, open your VPN first then simply create a shortcut using the following case sensitive command:-

     %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe ftp://10.0.1.201/MyServer

2. FTP over an insecure connection
Simply create a shortcut using the following case sensitive command:-

     %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe ftp://www.markandrewsmith.com/MyServer

Likewise, there are other data connection folder options available depending upon service ending in:-

     /MyServer
     /MyPartners
     /MyWebsites
     /MyArchive

Notes:

(1) Please also note that FTP inside bespoke applications are unsupported.

(2) Also note, that some clients have noticed that they experience problems with certain routers in establishing an FTP connect unless they use passive FTP mode.  This can be switched on inside Internet Explorer.  From the menu inside Internet Explorer select:-

Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced

then tick:-

"Use Passive FTP (for Firewall and DSL modem compatibility)"

(3) Optionally whilst on this screen, you may wish to choose but only if you prefer:-

"Enable FTP folder view (outside of Internet Explorer)"
